Weekly Digest: 11/16/08

One thing I’m sure most Anime viewers like about Anime is that it is virtually a part of our imagination. In my younger days I have wanted to use to “Kamahamaha” or however you spell it. Other things that glistened in my mind was the ability to fly and transform. To this day, I’ve wanted the ability to wear a mask and gain a large amount of power, like the Hollow Masks in Bleach and such. I have fantasies of being able to conquer the world like Lelouch did in Code Geass R2 and of having eyes similar to the Mangekyou Sharingan of Itachi from Naruto. I have longed for life to be interesting compared to my daily life of school and studying, but I know that such beliefs can only be beliefs and nothing more. It is only a dream and for that it can only stay a dream in my life. Hopefully I’m not one of the few guys who have such fantasies…

The Manga “Change 123″ was about a girl with multiple personalities to take over the body to protect it. At times, I felt that I have a split personality due to unbearable stress but, its not really a split, its just stress =P. The personality Zero from Change 123 seemed to be something I need as I want to just bottle up the frustrations into another personality so I don’t feel it. Then when I get knocked out, this other personality would kill or beat up to protect the body as well as relieve the rage while doing it.

Manga

Code Breaker9/10
This Manga is totally awesome to me – the famous quote they use is “An eye for an eye, an ear for an ear… and an evil for an evil!” This might sound corny and you know what? It IS! The reason I like this is because I feel that that’s something that’s nearly global in the world; if one guy gets poked in the butt he’ll be damned if he doesn’t poke the poker’s butt. Still, my other philosophy is “An eye for an eye and the whole world will go blind”, which I believe was from Confucius or someone. What I like about this Manga is that it reminds me of Kaze no Stigma. Oogami is just really similar to Kazuma; they’re both callous guys who peeves off a girl that they (might) like. What I like is mostly because Oogami uses blue flames, which in Kaze no Stigma was called “Sacred Flame” or something along the lines, to murder his enemies. He likes to kill and that just makes it much more interesting. I guess I also like genres where people are just being killed mercilessly and without hesitation as well besides swords. But hey, Oogami DOES know how to use a sword as well. What makes the greatest connection between Oogami and Kazuma is that they seem to carry a similar past. I’m not going to say it as it might spoiler it for some people, so I’m going to place this in spoiler tags! Show Spoilers ▼

Mahou Sensei Negima – Chapter 232 — 10/10
Firstly I would like to say that I’m not a shota fan. I’ve collected a few Manga of this series and have stopped due to the fact that I felt collecting these Manga are trivial and has no benefits toward me. The biggest “barricade” to this is that there are scanlators who’ve translated more chapters than the original English version. I’ve even heard that scanlators are much better at translating than normal translators of Manga. One example would be “Kurohime”, I guess. Regardless, I love this Manga as it has magic fights, sword fights, and fist-to-fist combat. Plus there’s a lot of panty shots and the like (i.e. ecchi filled). That’s like an all-in-one buffet to me! The only problem is that the Anime isn’t as interesting as the Manga; it doesn’t entirely follow it.

One thing I like about this chapter and the chapter before this is that it shows fearlessness when fighting. I truly envy the fact that some Anime characters are apathetic during fights and only wish to have more combat – kind of like Hollow Ichigo and Zaraki in Bleach. It’s just exciting because they want more to fight and more to kill to get stronger… or something like that. I can’t exactly tell, but that’s the intention I get whenever I see someone callously fighting with the intent to inflict more damage to the enemy/self. This more or less exhilarates me. It’s like… when someone sees something from an Anime, they want to mimic it as well (like the Haruhi dance!) Plus it would be sooo cool to have Magister Nagi “get together” with the princess. In the previous chapter, it kind of gave an idea that Asuna is Negi’s… sister of some sort. But who knows until more chapters are out?!

Onani Master Kurosawa8/10
Onani means masturbation. This Manga, or should I say Doujin, is an alright piece of art. I’ve read 9 chapters of it and are impressed by the story and such. Kurosawa seems to be the main character here and the basic thing he does, as a “middle schooler” is masturbate after school in a girl’s bathroom. Sounds disgusting and stuff, and it really is. What makes this interesting to me is that it shows that this guy has sympathy for the people are bullied… and ways to get revenge… in a really vulgar way. He seems to be a smart guy who’d jack off toward anything that looks hot and stuff to him. I’d recommend this to anyone who doesn’t mind seeing a small (literally small) amount of ecchi. It gives situations where it can be considered for “adults”, but I think it’s right for the normal, healthy (*cough* perverted *cough*) youth mind.

Onidere9.5/10
Onidere is an awesome Manga which I would categorize as “yandere material”. What’s “dere”? “Dere Dere” is used when a person becomes spoony in front of his/her lover (source: urbandictionry). Yandere is someone who’s violent and psychotic and is “dere dere” as well. As the title is “Oni” “dere”, you can guess that it means someone who’s like a demon (oni) and is lovey-dovey toward her lover. Great Manga, just that I don’t understand why a leader of a gang would like a guy (who I would really believe is also an Otaku) with glasses. To be exact, I want to know how they met each other and why they like each other (or maybe it’s a one sided love…) Though, it’s cute AND funny that Saya, the leader, would act all mean to Tadashi, her boyfriend, in front of her gang-friends but when she has to touch him her force dips to a wobbling baby. The funniest part is that Saya always wants to repent for her yandere behavior toward him whenever she’s around her gang-friends via brutally damaging/nearly killing herself. It’s very cute the way she acts around him (I would say it’s probably a bit more cute than Tiger’s crying face ;]) and that’s really making me want to continue reading it.

World Embryo – Chapter 38 + 39 — 9/10
What do you do when the one you love but never confessed to disappeared? What will you do if you found an egg which hatched into a “human baby” who had the face of your lover? What if you have to take care of this baby, who also has a rapid growth rate, and fight parasites which are infecting humans via cell phones? And what if these same parasites changed you into a gruesome monster? Well, Amami Riku pretty much fell into these types of questions. The love part though (a person named Amane)… I’m not exactly sure on. This Manga, to me, is totally interesting because Riku is actually a big liar. He lies his way to everything in his life until he met “Nee-ne”, the “baby” which hatched out of an egg he founds (or to be exact, was apprehended by). I’m not going to go into the details – you’ll have to read it yourself – so I’ll speak of my thoughts I’ve had for a long time on this Manga. I started reading this Manga months (or maybe a year and a few months) ago. It was interesting because it has mysteries and really, Nee-ne is really cute :P One thing I’ve been hoping for is that Nee-ne would grow up to become like Amane so that Riku can well, love her. It’s just the first thing I thought once I saw Nee-ne’s face when she saw her “father” and “mother” holding hands. It was just sad because I never expected Rena Arisugawa (some girl who Riku “works” with) to actually like Riku. All I can say is that I’d be really saddened if Nee-ne doesn’t get together with Riku as boyfriend+girlfriend. Another outcome that I’d be saddened by is if Nee-ne goes evil and screws Riku over :(

This Manga is worth while to read in my opinion, so I do suggest it for others to read. URL: http://mangahut.com/manga/World%20Embryo

Zero9.7/10
I didn’t think that this Manga would interest me much at all, but once I read the first volume I took back what I said. The beginning has a nice storyline that gives me hints about what has happened to the main character during has past and that’s more or less what I look for. After the first volume, it started to go onto a new topic where they weren’t being chased or anything anymore. It’s really amazing because the format that was used totally fascinates me. What I don’t like, though, is that the pages are read from left to right… and in some cases I think it’s read from right to left; it’s confusing. A thing I like about this Manga is that the main character is pretty dumb and has a strong sense of justice. That “justice” of his his cruel yet satisfying for me. Another thing I like about this is that it involves “magic” of some sort. Magic doesn’t HAVE to have raging fires or a storm of ice, for me it can be anything which can be done that normal humans cannot do even with the help of technology. The “Magic” is called “ESP” in this Manga and well, it revolves on the main character having a ludicrous amount of power. He escaped with his sister to try and have peace ans safety but is then recruited into an organization to gain money and support, though he was initially against it but changed his mind after a few unfortunate events. Now, in school, the main character is supposedly learning about how to control/use his powers more efficiently (as if he didn’t already know how to already ;P) As said, the main character’s dumb and he even even thought that he could buy friends as he never had one before. This Manga (or to be correct… “Manwha”) is really interesting and I would suggest anyone who is interested to read it.

Anime

Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka8.5/10
Well this Anime seems to hold a lot of secrets in itself. For one thing, why do they show the happenings of Junichi’s parents? Does Minato really love Junichi or does she support Katagiri and Junichi’s engagement? Really, who and why are people trying to setup Junichi and Katagiri together? I mean I don’t mind it (in fact I support Katagiri to love Junichi and him to her) but I have a really bad feeling that in the end it’ll end up like a Da Capo show… or worse, what if it ends up as a Shuffle! show? As there’s like… 6 or 5 more episodes left to run… I’ll just have to wait. What would really peeve me off is if there is no conclusion about who Junichi loves… just so that they can prolong this for another season. I just want to know who he really likes, if anyone. Currently I think he loves his adopted sister, which is really making me falter as to whether or not I should watch something that might end up like a Da Capo ending…

Bleach – 194
Memories of a character has always interest me for some reason. I guess it’s because I don’t know anything about the character, which in this case is Nel. Nel is an interesting character… for the fact that she was an Espada who wasn’t violent and such like the others. I guess the “other” non-violent one would be Ulquiorra, but he doesn’t seem that interesting besides the fact that he has super healing powers. Nel’s past is pretty sad, isn’t it? She didn’t want to fight or cause any trouble; she was just an innocent woman who wanted to have fun. Nnoitra and the other Espadas have in their mind that fighting is the only thing they should do. They have minds that are more or less the same as Kenpachi (Zaraki). What I find as a messed up thing is that (some of) the Espadas seem to have a… superiority complex. They just believe that they are the strongest and head straight into the fight. This doesn’t REALLY exclude Nel – she fought believing that Nnoitra was weak as usual.

This episode kind of made me think of Bleach a little better… but it still hasn’t raised it to the point that I felt it was awesome… they just have too many useless fillers where the same cycle follows:
Surprise -> Initial Fight -> Surprise -> Fight -> Surprise -> Kill

Seriously, that’s like the “formula” they use for the fillers… it’s just annoying and repetitive.

Naruto Shinpuuden – 84
For some reason, Naruto has been much more enticing than Bleach for me. Don’t get me wrong; this doesn’t mean I believe Naruto > Bleach. It just makes more sense in terms of reality. Seriously, this isn’t something where “I’m the main character so I automatically will own everyone.” That’s kind of how I see Bleach as. For Naruto, it has always given me the idea that even though your strong, others will have things which makes them stronger than you. It’s more realistic, in other words. It’s not the type of Anime where “I have the x thing powering me up, so I’ll win no matter what.” That’s just how Bleach seems to be portrayed to me. Let’s look at the Bount episodes. It goes through the series where Ichigo gets owned, gets stronger, then finally owns the enemy. Ichigo is pretty much the strongest guy in the show, but they like to show marginal power differences to people that he had already defeated at full power (Zaraki). Naruto on the other hand shows that if this one guy can’t win, he can try to get stronger. When he gets stronger, he can try again to fight someone who had ALSO become stronger. Guess I’m just saying that Naruto doesn’t always win his battles. Bleach… it QUICKLY goes through episodes where Ichigo is weaker than the enemy, but will some how miraculously win. Naruto… it takes a looong time. This does NOT count the movies. Movies are supposed to be quick; can’t blame it for that. Anyways, Naruto is a great show to watch, but if you don’t understand the beginning, you won’t understand the present.

I like the PSI-missing one a lot better :P

Just so everyone is clear, the Weekly Digest will have an Introductory which will normally talk about either events that are happening/happened or will be a sort of “gateway” to understand the boggers (and if possible, the audience) a bit more.
