Nagato Yuki-chan no Shoushitsu – Disgracing Yuki
Manga Rating: 5.0/10.0
So, I saw this on OneManga a few days ago and thought: What the hell? This better be time worthy. And what do you know? It isn’t. But don’t get me wrong – I’m really opinionated so I might think that while others love this. Now, I’ll tell you why I don’t like this Manga (hereafter “Doujin”) and will contradict myself right now by saying that I’ll still read it to the end.
First of all, when I first see the Nagato Yuki in this story I had little trouble differentiating her. She has a… “unique look.” But as I read on this story, I can’t help but whine at how poorly drawn she was and how she looks so much like a man in a yaoi Doujin. Yes, I said it: I think the author of this Doujin, Puyo, is really an author of various yaoi Manga which is obviously directed at women. Fact is, women like things involving homosexuals – men and women.
The next thing which really made me queasy was that Nagato Yuki was not Nagato Yuki. She had little to no attributes to Yuki except for the fact that she “kind of” looks like her. So, if you ask me this Doujin is one of those shit using a name in their brand just to gather more viewers – and you know what? It works. I’m being completely honest here. The mere fact it involves Yuki is why I’m reading it. If this Doujin were to have used any other character name that I do not know of I promise you that I will refuse to read it with such vehement reluctance similar to that of a man trying to escape the rape of a homosexual rapist.
Kyon does not look like Kyon much, really. And Ryoko, she only has slight similarities. What could have been made better is if the artist (who is the author) found a real artist who could draw the characters well. That way, these corny plots will at least have some value to it. What is that value? The fact that they look like the real characters in Haruhi Suzumiya.
You can easily tell here that the main characters are not Mikuru and Tsuruya. They look like the ugliest bitches you can find as a homeless. What can you say about this? The author obviously doesn’t like Tsuruya or Mikuru as she (or he, but I don’t think any man would ever use the name “Puyo” lest he is bicurious) showed little effort in making the two look half as nice as Nagato Yuki.
So the rating I gave was 5 and by now you should probably have a sense of why.
DIGRESSION:
This reminds me… I should be watching the “second season” of Haruhi Suzumiya…

Obvious homophobia aside, this seems like a pretty apt review. Still, it’s always amusing to see how the Haruhi brand can be utilised to sell completely unrelated products.
Sorry to disagree with you guys… Here’s my counter-review.
About the characers:
This manga was made for Yuki fans (her name’s in the title, doh!). If you came here expecting to see Haruhi, perhaps you misread the title. After all, Haruhi isn’t even mentioned there.
About the style: I was glad that the drawing style for the comedic scenes is pretty similar to the one used in the Haruhi-chan series. It has this familiar feeling to it.
About the story: I’m sure that in japan, all Haruhi fans have read the 4th Haruhi novel. Personally, I’m glad to see Yuki involved in a romantic comedy story. It’s the life that SHE wanted (otherwise, the 4th novel wouldn’t have taken place at all). Maybe you don’t feel attracted to this manga at all, but it’s completely understandable. The light Novels haven’t been published in english (at least, not officially), and you haven’t had the chance to “watch” Yuki smile, get scared, or about to cry. Well, I have, and I understand – and so have those who read the 4th, 7th and 8th Haruhi novels.
If you read the 8th novel, you’ll realize why Yuki looked so happy when playing with cotton snow with Kyon. If you read the 4th, you’ll realize why she’s in love with him.
But for those who have read the novels, clearly understand that behind that robotic shell lies a heartwarming, shy girl who desperately wants to live a normal life. Let’s enjoy reading it and loving the alternate Yuki!
As someone who read all the novels so far, I give this series a 10 out of 10.
