Kurokami – 01 – I think I shat in my pants
So I was watching Kurokami[1] expecting to see some guy’s arm to be torn off and instead I got petty fighting and a bunch of girls getting run over by a car. Is that normal? Well, yes that is normal. I just wasn’t expecting that the first episode would bring up a lot of girls just to have them dead a few minutes later. ANYWAYS:
When I saw this line, I immediately thought of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. I don’t know why; maybe it was because Haruhi wanted to love someone and to have someone love her (and attained it via the lucky bastard named Kyon). After the beginning of the show and it showed how boring and crappy Keita’s life is. Plus, he’s a big liar. Lied about everything he initially said he was OK with while placing on a guise of innocence. Here’s how the lie went:
Friend: Hey Keita, want to go buy some Kids Meals at McDonalds to get some Dinosaur toys?
Keita: Sure!
Friend: Ok lets go!
Keita: Wait, I just remembered that I have to go masturbate in front of my neighbor’s daughter.
Friend: Aw, that’s too bad.
Keita leaves and starts to buy some Tacos at Taco Bell
I guess Keita took a liking to a girl in need[2]. Probably wanted to get in her pants. I don’t blame him. He’s probably raging with hormonal problems anyways. But an interesting thing that was being discussed here was that there are 3 people who look alike. 2 dies and the last is the original – the “Mototsumitama”[3]. These people have amazing powers like this image:
Here you see a Mototsumitama beating up another Mototsumitama. One is a big ugly guy who could’ve raped Kuro (the girl) but instead chose to kill her. That, sir, is not smart. Regardless, there was a scene where Keita tried to smash the big guy with a chair… and I thought that that scene is totally banal – it’s been repeated way too much. Having the old stuff isn’t exactly bad, but when it’s been repeated at least 50 times let it rest[4]!
Kuro kicks ass and she does it gewd. I’m not sure how she gained the strength but I guess being a Mototsumitama entitles you to have power equivalent to Superman. She looks very calm in this picture, but when she was done she started to act like a whiny girl who just broke her fingernail. I mean, I would whine as well but I’m just using the best analogy that comes to mind. Strange girl who code switches a lot. Not that I don’t do that a lot.
So her goal is revealed. Whoopdeedoo. Who’s her brother now and why does she want to kill him? Did he rape her or something? Or did he nearly get her killed? I hate guessing games so this initially made me :) then after that scene ended :( I just wish that an Anime would JUST tell the audience the past before the present. It just makes the story more… consistent. Some say that showing the present first before the past makes it that much more of an success. I say showing the present first before the past makes it much more of a detest.
This was really sad for me mainly because a happy girl died. She died because she saw a mirror image of herself. As a result, she died along with that mirror image and so the third one will live happily ever after. Makes a lot of sense, huh? MOVING ON~
I thought this was too much for the pussy Keita. Maybe not. I mean, just the night before he was dreaming of his dead mother, that day his friend Risa died, and now his neighbor’s daughter is dead. All died for the reason that they saw their splitting mirror image the day before. So what does that mean for the dead ones? NOTHING! They’re not the original so no screen time for them! But I still do feel sorry for Keita for losing his loved ones. I can barely fathom how it feels to lose that much people who are close to you.
So yea, here are the Mototsumitama who are the “originals”. They will probably gain super powers like Kuro[5] and soon try to kill her as well. But, well, why is Kuro the one being chased down? What’s so special about her? Is it because Kuro is unbeatable or something? And who is that guy who rallied up all these people? If none of these questions are answered I’m going to bring a flute and jam it up lolikitsune’s butthole – the “second” vagina for men.
Overall this show was more than interesting. It’s interesting but it wasn’t engaging; it didn’t keep me wanting to see more of this series. I would have expected Keita to turn into a Hikkikomori or something. Instead he turned into a somewhat nice guy who worries a lot about people who’ve seen their second self and in the process, dying. Hell, I think i would be thinking the same way as him if that much despair happened.
Notes
1. Kurokami. Kuro = Dark. Kami = God. Dark God. At least, that’s what I think it means.
2. I wouldn’t have given my food to someone else if I was hungry. Unless I had extra money and understand that the other person is bloody hungry. I just think that if I’m hungry, I should fill up my energy first. Well, in that logic, I guess after eating half the bowl I would give it to someone in need.
3. I tried to use http://freedict.com to translate mototsumitama into English. Moto = Origin. Tsumi = Crime. Tama = Soul/Shell. I can’t figure out what it means.
4. I don’t remember a single Anime title which had the same scene BUT I do know that I’ve seen this way too much. Mainly from scenes where a girl is getting picked on and the guy wanted to prove his manliness to her. In most cases, the guy fails and the people picking on the girl would leave that guy alone.
5. “Kuro’s” name means dark. So as a result, that name is obliviously an alias probably to hide her real identity. Though, why would someone hiding their identity talk about the secrets of life?

The official English name of the series is “Black God.” (It’s released by Yen Press)That’s really a more accurate translation…also, Kuro has black hair, and is similar to the dog (Kuro is a bit of a dog’s name, like “Blackie” or “Spot” in English)
That fighting was enough for me to keep watching. At least that dude was overly emo about things…which IS odd. I would have accepted emo…>_>
i think i just came from reading this entry.
@Goshinga
Yea, that happens a lot.
@53RG10
It felt kind of tantamount to To Aru Majutsu no Index’s fights.
OFFTOPIC: How’d you pick your name and what does it mean?
@Anonymous
Oh, I see.

PWNED. ;_;
Ahh, Sunrise, only you would show a loli getting creamed by a show with no suitable censorship.
@Aizen: My name is my first real name in leet. 53RG10 = Sergio ^_^
O_O Damnit I haven’t done leet for who knows how long :p
Mototsumitama is translated as “Root” by scanlators in the manga version.
from your translation website, the closest it would be is “original soul”, referring to the other “copies”
looking at the screenies i think i should try watching this…
