Hayate fights Nonohara and pretty much gets nearly beaten. Nonohara had his ultimate attack - Safety Shutter - while Hayate had none. What saves him is that he used Nonohara’s master, Azumamiya, as a shield to catch him off guard. Oh and, did I mention that Azumamiya challenged little ol’ Nagi and was instead fought + defeated by Hinagiku? Anyways, after the battle Nagi wanted to have Hayate obtain an ultimate attack so she made him fight with Tama.

I don’t think Hayate ever really obtained a real ultimate attack - I mean the armor he got when he was fighting Kuzuha was just temporary. So really, Hayate has no real ultimate attack and has to rely on his physical strength alone. Maybe if Nagi were in a life/death situation he would somehow make an ultimate attack. Besides that, if Nagi were to fight Azumamiya, I think Hayate would go berserk. She IS his master… but then again if it’s a 1vs1 battle Hayate might not interfere. MIGHT NOT. Really, I don’t think we’ve ever seen a physically damaged Nagi who didn’t have more than “just a scratch”.
