I’m not sure how many people are into “gender bending” ^[1], but I’ll say that I’m a little fond of it. Now I don’t mean I’m fond-fond of it, but I’m fond of certain kinds. One type I like are the nicely drawn female-looking characters who are male. For instance, Kyon to Kyonko. But… there are some which I just can’t enjoy because, well, they’re poorly drawn and/or suck. Here’s an example of what I mean:

I mean, who would really want to see that type of couple? You can DEFINITELY argue that this is yaoi – I even consider it it but as Orochimaru is in a wedding dress I place him in the category of “gender bent”. Now, if someone were to draw Orochimaru in a way that he looks nothing like his ugly self then we can start talking, but this is the most putrid thing I’ve ever seen in gender bending. Well, one of them at least. But it really only depends on the drawer. If they draw it well, it’s well drawn. If it isn’t and people say it is, well, they’re lying. I don’t want to see a female version of Bobobo if “she’s” full of muscles, if you get what I mean.

Then there are the type of drawings which are… REALLY nice, but at the same time drives me off. These drawings I’m OK with but if you make me look at it for some time, I’ll get bored and feel that the drawing looks too much like a guy. These drawings have a perfectly fine female body but the head itself is creepy. It’s like the thing of “hot back, ugly front.” I’m not being licentious or anything but if I see a picture with a “hot girl” I look at the center if you know what I mean. Center then the top, I mean ^[2]. Here’s an example of what I’m saying:

Now going back to what type of gender bending is wrong: I hate female gender bending. I just hate it. To be exact, I hate the ones that suck. Ones with “handsome” gender bent girls are OK but I still don’t like it because, well, I’m a guy and I prefer girls. I prefer male avatars, though. I know people don’t exactly care what gender you are in the internet but I just don’t like it. Besides that, most female avatars never express how I feel or anything. That’s right: Avatars should express yourself and not “oh it looks nice so I’ll use it.” Though, it doesn’t really matter. But I digress.

As said before, I don’t like to watch guys in Anime/Manga who are bloody buff. It makes them look hideous. I guess that is also why a lot of people prefer GAR ^[3]. But people just love to screw around with people and do exactly that. They take someone who has no bewbs and make them bloody muscular or overly obnoxious-looking. I think this is a gender bending of “Touya” or something from Clannad. Though, I have to say that the top left image goes into my category of “NOT LIKE”. The others are mainly good. He looks like he’d be perfect in a yuri-tsundere show, if you ask me :P He doesn’t look half bad as a girl, either, like most gender bent guys :3 Comparing it to the Code Geass gender bending, this isn’t half bad. The Code Geass one had most of the gender bent girls look gay while the gender bent guys aren’t half bad.

1. Gender bending is the switching of genders of characters.
2. I never do that in real life as that can surely get me killed by girls.
3. A term used towards male characters and individuals who are so overwhelmingly manly that your own masculinity is absolutely *buried*, leaving you naught but a whimpering, swooning girl-child before them.
