Do it the Japanese way

Japan used to be more “over-populated” than it is now. The difference is so remarkable that the country has motivated its people to have a second child as well!!! However, anime, which is probably one of the Japan’s best and unique products keeps growing in population… You could say that the anime characters are actually more in number than the actual population of Japan! Even if that’s true or not, it’s not common to spot two identical anime characters who resemble each other as much as two Japanese people do. It’s an undeniable proof that Japanese imagination has no limits. Thousands of shows, millions of characters, billions of variations of the same story and still each one of the characters has something unique.

Another remarkable thing about anime is that the characters don’t look like Japanese people at all although they are made from them. Even if Japanese didn’t want their characters to look like them it makes you wonder if those “creatures” are really made from them. Maybe Japanese despise those eyes of and that color of theirs that want at least their characters to be different and almost perfect… I praise whoever doesn’t wish for those eyes, those clothes, that hair, those drops and expressions of anime characters.

On the other hand, Japanese people that look alike can be found everywhere, even in a single photo! I’ll show you what I mean:

Japanese crowd

Okay maybe some of you won’t agree with me about the matches but whatever…

You can’t deny that almost everyone wears a white shirt onion15

Anyways my point is that anime characters don’t resemble Japanese people because Japanese people didn’t want them to do so. Same goes for anime characters amongst themselves…

Or maybe not...…or maybe notonion41

OMG that’s an epic OP image *__* Can’t even count how much shows characters are representing in there XD. And yeah, anime has unthinkable limitations ^^.
My friends jokingly told me a story that anime characters have huge eyes because Japanese wanted huge eyes but they can’t have it so they just make fictional characters with that appearance XD.

@kanzeon: Rofl I thought so too. That’s why anime girls are every otaku’s dream after all. The charcters in the image are 78 or 79 so make your assumptions ;p

Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, Bleach, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Chobits, Hayate no Gotoku, Lucky Star, Shakugan no Shana, Code Geass, Chrono Crusade, Cardcaptor Sakura, Kiddy Grade, Clannad, Toradora, Gunslinger Girl and on… and on… and on… OMG I got a headache @.@

Madarame from Genshiken is pretty much the only Japanese looking guy in anime -_-

    What an epic picture, indeed!

Well, if I were Japanese, whose faces seem to be all the same, of course I’d beg to differ! (No offence, but I’d better like to be considered unique and not “one of the crowd”)

And sure thing, there’s a chance that anime characters are more in number than the actual Japanese population! It may seem to be an exaggeration, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the case. And, after all, there are so many different characters in this anime community that everyone can find a character he can identify with…

Epic image is epic. Any bigger version?

My misinformed opinion: Most of the realistic looking anime characters look Caucasian,  while all the other ones look like some sort of evolved human who has adapted to a nocturnal environment (those huge eyes should be good in the dark right…)

@Snark: He is one of the few ;p

@Panther: I am sowwy, no bigger version available :|

@TJ: From now on, I’ll wake up at night xD

I found a pretty scholarly-sounding reason about why anime characters don’t look Japanese. Here’s the link from AnimeNation.net’s Ask John archive.

    @kanzeon: You don’t visit /a/ much eh?
Also, that is not the model in the pictur- Oh wait.

@Yumeka: Thx for the linkie ;p

@Kairu: It’s not that obvious in the smaller version but I still think they look alike!!!
