Axis Powers Hetalia – 06 – CHOPIN!

Our reluctant team Axis is still stranded on a desert island….but of course they have the fix’ns for making smores. Remember kids: All militant trifectas have the ability to spontaneously fabricate smores. It’s a fact.

Their shipwreck predicament leaves them calmly staring into the fire, sleeping and being soothed by Chopin’s Nocturne (op.9 No.2 – for those of you who like to tickle the ivories) The whole scene is kind of like Lost only no women, no pregnancies (I hope) and no polar bears. However, can this calm and serene moment last?

Snooping around the brush we spot America and finally get a good look at the Ally team. They’re searching around the island and manage to spot Germany, Japan and Italy. In addition they manage…

…to get jealous of their smores….probably the Chopin too.

Jump to Austria. The newest addition to our character list. Of course he’s a renaissance bishonen complete with purple justacorps, white ascott and plenty of Viennese spunk. Germany and Austria both find solace in the fact that they know that Hetalia is inept. They fear the day when he begins mass production of “I surrender” flags. Amongst various other pilfering of tomatoes and carbohydrates.

Behold the frustration

Austria suddenly claims to be very angry…..at a piano piece. Chopin no less! (I’m not familiar with the piece that Austria plays…anyone know? I researched to no avail). Austria flies into a torrid performance with angst and murky fluttering chords. Germany looks on in amazement. I thought that this would be a good opportunity to inappropriately make the piano brand yamaha or suzuki.

Then we have an adorable chibitalia moment where Hetalia talks about being bullied by Austria. However, when young Hetalia hears Austria’s superior piano playing, he can’t help but like him. Austria invites Hetalia in to listen and the two share a brotherly moment, sans pasta. Yes, a love of classical piano can heal all family feuds…just watch Nodame Cantabile.

Due to their previous jealousy of the Axis powers…we find our merry Allies roasting marshmallows by the fire. The UK meanwhile sings a campfire song that sounds more like a maniacal druid chant. US (Katsuyuki Konishi and his amazing voice) freaks out shouting…

“I feel like we’re summoning a devil/demon or something!”

Back to the German speakers. Austria accosts Germany for throwing away boxers with a hole in them (of course it’s on the ass cheek….shhhh down yoai girls down!). He discusses Franz Joseph’s frugality and how Germany is being wasteful. Needless to say….Germany ends up with a sad little patch. He is easily becoming one of the most epic tsundere characters of all time.

Again we hear the soothing sounds of Chopin’s nocturne on the beach where the Axis boys are camped. Germany and Japan discuss Austria which makes Hetalia motion that they shouldn’t be concerned, because “Austria is right over there.”

The camera pans left and we see Austria playing amidst the shallow waves of the ocean. Anyone else have major The Piano deja vu?

Notes:

Hetalia said pasta drastically fewer times this episode. I was in shock.

I find it funny that Austria seems to be the boss of Germany….haha no.

Does anyone find it odd that Austria seems to be obsessed with a polish composer? Vienna was the hub of musical genius for a 200 year period of time….why not an Austrian composer? Or even Mozart…a German one could further unite Austria and Germany.

I’m sure that someone enjoyed the fanservice tidbit that Austria and Germany are “living together.” I guess this represents Austria being occupied….(shrug)…if not then they really enjoyed the boxer hole incident…girls he’s German, but not that kind of German.

Normally, music makes a show interesting. But once I start to sing and do something dramatic, people laugh. What the hell?

England’s chant is to the melody of some classical march. I recognize the tune but I have no idea what the title is.

I’ve never heard the piece Austria played, but I don’t know all of Chopin, so.

@Dominique:  I checked a huge discography and listened to almost 200 midis…..nothing!!!! Just one of them sounded “like” it. I had Chopin Rage. Just my luck Germany got it wrong and it isn’t Chopin at all.
